Your employees not only accrue statutory holiday days, but are also entitled to additional leave through special leave schemes, such as time credit. In this article, we will give you an overview.
Statutory holiday days for employees
Most full-time employees are entitled to four weeks of annual paid holiday. Special arrangements apply for recent graduates and those over fifty who return to work after inactivity, namely youth holiday and senior holiday respectively.
Holiday based on the previous year
In the private sector, the amount of statutory holiday depends on the number of days worked during the previous calendar year (the ‘holiday reference year’).
There are still some differences in the calculation method of statutory holiday for manual workers and salaried employees. For salaried employees, as an employer you can get a quick indication via the Liantis holiday calculation tool. The number of holiday days for manual workers can be checked by the employer via the Social Security website.
Special holiday schemes for young people and those over 50
Young people who have just started working have not yet accrued holiday rights. Therefore, they can rely on youth holiday days. The RVA provides a benefit amounting to 65% of the employee’s gross salary. The gross salary is capped at 2,297.90 euros per month.
Those over fifty who return to work after a period of unemployment or illness can make use of senior holiday. Here too, the RVA provides a benefit of 65% of the gross salary of the employee concerned.
